Never having met a "Savant" before, I am fascinated !
In my opinion Derek proves that:
(1) Gifts are conclusively "God - given". Derek is blind with no other cognitive or social skills that would facilitate the development of his musical gift. The rest of us have a mix of skills that could be construed as aiding and abetting an ambition to play music or to practice any other skill. Therefore our will and work often gets the credit.
(2) Gifts are compulsive when they are resident in a person with no other capacities. They must be expressed. To the extent of the gifting then, they glorify the Creator who gave them.
...... and finally
(3) This is a GIFT. It's hard, in fact, impossible for average musicians to play this well. Many of us long for music to be this easy.
Derek then is a masterpiece in one column... and when we find our own gifts -- we are wise to place the credit where it belongs.
